Supplement Comparison·2025
My hair was thinning. Slowly, then fast. I tried biotin, rosemary oil, expensive serums. Nothing worked.
Then I learned the real reason. Hair loss in women is almost always hormonal. A hormone called DHT attacks your follicles.
Pumpkin seed oil can help stop it, but only if the formula is right.
I tested 10 of the most popular capsules. Here's what I found.
Most brands just put cheap oil in a capsule and call it a hair supplement. The formula is what actually matters.
What makes pumpkin seed oil matter
Pumpkin seed oil alone blocks half the problem. Saw palmetto blocks the other half. You need both.

With Saw Palmetto, Formulated for Women
This is the one that worked for me. After 10 weeks, shedding slowed. After 16 weeks, baby hairs were growing back.
It combines pumpkin seed oil with saw palmetto. Together they block the hormone destroying your follicles. Every other brand on this list only has one of them.
The oil is cold-pressed. Keeps the active compounds intact. Most brands use heat-processed oil. Cheaper, weaker, and you'd never know from the label.
Built for women. Not men. Not general wellness. The formula was designed around the hormonal reason women lose hair.
The only capsule that gets the formula, dose, and extraction method all right. If your hair is thinning, start here.
3000mg per serving
The only other brand on this list that includes saw palmetto. But 3000mg is overkill and your body cannot absorb all of it anyway. You are essentially paying for supplements that goes to waste. On top of that, the saw palmetto dose changes depending on which version you buy. 75mg in one, 300mg in another. Women who tried the weaker version saw nothing and gave up.
Right idea, unreliable execution. Better than most, not as focused as Bloom and Bond.
Cold Pressed, Non-GMO
A genuinely clean product from a brand with decades of consistent quality. Cold-pressed, no fillers, transparent sourcing. But it has no saw palmetto, which means it is only working on one side of the DHT pathway. For hair thinning, that leaves the job half done. Some reviewers also reported stomach discomfort at the full dose.
Reputable brand, incomplete formula for hair thinning.
Cold Pressed, Non-GMO
Horbaach sells hundreds of supplements including probiotics, collagen and fish oil. Pumpkin seed oil is just another SKU. The 3000mg on the label is the marketing. What they do not tell you is how much of the active compound actually survived extraction. No potency data, no saw palmetto, no formula built for women.
You are paying for a number on a label, not a verified dose.
Cold Pressed, Non-GMO
Force Factor is a men's sports and health brand. This was built for prostate support and male cognitive health, not for a woman whose hair is thinning because of hormones. Good manufacturing quality, clean capsule, no gelatin. But the formula and dose were never designed with female hair loss in mind. Some women see mild results anyway since pumpkin seed oil does something on its own.
Well-made product, wrong formula for this problem
Cold Pressed, Non-GMO
Looks good on paper. Cold-pressed, high dose, fair price. But each bottle only lasts 25 days. Your hair needs 8 to 16 weeks of daily use before anything changes. You would be buying bottle after bottle just to reach the point where it can start working. No saw palmetto either, so you are only addressing half the hormonal issue.
Runs out before the ingredient has a real chance to work.
Organic, Vegetarian
Genuinely clean product. Certified organic oil, vegetarian capsule, no gelatin, short ingredient list. The problem is it was made for heart health, not hair. Hair thinning in women is a hormonal problem. Your follicles are shrinking because of a hormone imbalance, and one ingredient alone cannot fix that. This formula was designed around cholesterol and omega support.
Great omega supplement. Not a hair solution.
Men's Prostate Support
Swanson has been around since the 1960s. Affordable, easy to find, clean label. But this was made for men with prostate problems. The dose, the formula, the marketing, all of it was built with that in mind. Not for a woman whose hair is thinning because of hormones. Women who grab this off a pharmacy shelf hoping it helps with shedding almost always end up disappointed.
Decent product, completely wrong category for women.
Multi-Ingredient Men's Formula
A solid prostate supplement if you have a prostate. Saw palmetto and pumpkin seed are dosed for prostate biology, not hair. Pygeum and lycopene are in there too, prostate-specific ingredients that do nothing for female hair thinning. The pumpkin seed comes as a powder, not oil, so even the ingredient you came for is not delivered in the most useful form.
Prostate supplement that keeps appearing in hair searches. Wrong tool entirely.
Fully Vegan
DEVA makes clean vegan supplements and this one lives up to that. Fully plant-based capsule, no gelatin, transparent sourcing. The dose is lower than most competitors and there is no saw palmetto. For someone who wants a clean daily omega supplement that is 100% vegan, it is fine. For someone whose hair is actively thinning, it will not move the needle.
Clean vegan omega support. Not a meaningful hair thinning solution.
Solaray Pumpkin Seed Oil 1000mg Softgels: Honorable Mention
Clean label, solid quality control. Same limitation as NOW Foods and Horbaach. Single ingredient, no saw palmetto, not formulated for women or hair. Perfectly adequate for general wellness. Not for hair thinning.

Testimonials
It wasn't fast or dramatic. But after four months my hair is visibly thicker. My hairdresser asked what I changed. That's how I knew it was real.
Tried two other pumpkin seed oil brands before this. Nothing happened. Bloom & Bond was different. By week ten I had baby hairs at my hairline. Still taking it.
Post-partum shedding was awful. Started at week eight, by week eighteen the shedding had basically stopped. I wish I'd known about this sooner.
Going through menopause. Hair was thinning at the top. After five months it looks noticeably better. Less see-through. Still going.
Ponytail had been getting thinner for two years. First thing I actually believe is working. Ponytail is fuller. Shedding in the shower is down.
If you've already tried pumpkin seed oil and it didn't work, that's not the ingredient failing you. It's the formula. Most of what's on this list is cheap oil in a bottle with no saw palmetto, no women's formulation, and no evidence anyone thought hard about hair.
Pumpkin seed oil works. It just needs saw palmetto alongside it and a dose calibrated for the hormonal reason women lose hair.
Bloom & Bond is the only brand on this list built around that. Everything else is a men's product, a general wellness supplement, or missing something critical.
If hair thinning is what you're trying to fix, this is where I'd start.
